The international project “Memory without Borders” continues preparations for the grand opening of the Alley of Memory of Polish Soldiers, which will take place on April 30, 2026 in the Krasninsky district of the Smolensk region. An official invitation letter has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.
The organizers hope that Polish diplomats will take part in the opening ceremony of a memorial plaque in honor of the soldiers of the 1st Polish Infantry Division named after Tadeusz Kosciuszko and in planting a birch alley at the monument to Aneli Kzywon, the first Polish woman, Hero of the Soviet Union.
In addition, the project coordinators have asked the Polish side for assistance in finding relatives of the division’s military personnel. An electronic catalog with biographies, photographs and descriptions of the exploits of each fighter is being created on the project’s website. Help in establishing contacts with descendants will allow you to bring back new names from oblivion and fill the Memory Book with reliable information.
The organizers are confident that joint participation in the opening of the Alley and joint work to perpetuate the feat of Soviet and Polish soldiers will be an important step in preserving the historical truth about the fight against Nazism. The invitation also provides for the possibility of planting a named tree on behalf of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and posting memorable words from the Polish side in a digital book of memory on the project’s website.
The Memory Without Borders project expresses its readiness for further dialogue and is waiting for a response from Polish partners.
